Flash is a great drawing tool for the web, but it could have be better if it exported cmyk print ready files. Oh well.
The illustration was originally drawn in Flash, exported to Illustrator than assembled in Photoshop. The car color of the car was a pain. It’s easier to do shading for lighter colors, however the big challenge was to make the dark color shiny. The dark colors looked good in Flash, but exported as an Illustrator file, the rgb to cymk color changes resulted in very off colors. By the way, “ケリー” actually says “Kelly” in Japanese (seriously..google translate it).
After experimenting Flash to Illustrator, I realized that the car graphic from Flash could be as on huge PNG. When you export a png from flash it can only be saved as a certain size. To over come size limitations, change the DPI. In my case I made it 350dpi’s so it would come into Photoshop bigger than I needed. The colors were maintained.
The png file is rgb so the colors went to crap when I converted it to CYMK. I had to adjust the colors. I do hope that the colors pop when it goes to print.
And here is the final final version.
This is an illustration of my friend Kelly D. As I stated earlier, “ケリー” actually says “Kelly”. It’s based on the anime “Initial D” She actually has a Jetta. I’ve drawn similar versions before, so this is the 2011 version. The text below the “ケリー-D” also says something in Japanese. Of course I’m not telling.
